When it comes to Disney auditions, you have to remember that there are so many avenues to get your foot in the Disney door. Along with Disney movies and the Disney Channel, there is Disney on Broadway, playing a character at Disneyland or Disneyworld and there is also…Disney on Ice!
In an interview with the Daily Tribune, Daniel Palmeri of Macomb Township who is a principal skater for Disney on Ice, talks about how he landed the role.
On how he got started skating: “We were on our way home from the show — my parents took me to see one of the Disney productions — and I asked if I could try skating. We were passing the arena at the time, so they pulled over. I tried on a pair of skates and here I am.”
On how he landed the role: “I joined on a fluke in 2007,” said Palmeri by phone from a tour stop in Boston. While visiting with a friend who was in town for another show, he learned that Disney was holding auditions for a new show. Palmeri had no intention of becoming a professional skater and was set to attend Oakland University. Although he declined, the seed was planted and within two days Palmeri was able to assemble a video and a resume, and land a role in “Disney On Ice presents High School Musical.”
Right now he plays the roles of Pinocchio and Buzz Lightyear. He does have dreams of earning a gold medal at the Collegiate National Championships, but for now, Disney on Ice is his home.
