The Austin Family & Parenting Examiner spoke with Disney Channel officials and received some good inside tips that should help you out a little more with the audition. If you’ll remember, an open casting call is how Disney Channel found both Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. Disney sent out the call, the girls came and gave it their best shot and the rest is history.

What was it about those two that Disney liked? According to the Examiner’s inside tips: “Big personalities are key. Script reading only, but interesting candidates have been asked to break out into song or dance in the past.”

Disney Channel and Disney XD will hold an open casting call for boys and girls (age 10-18) with acting, singing and/or dancing abilities to be considered for upcoming original movies and series at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown (700 San Jacinto at 8th Street, Austin, Texas) on SATURDAY, MARCH 27 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

There is no fee to attend the open call. The Omni Austin Hotel Downtown offers self parking for $10.00.

Disney Live is a great show! This is a fabulous opportunity.

Starting at 2:45 pm Friday, all kids ages 4-25 can audition, and parents are encouraged to come along. No specific talent is required—but something might help—you can choose what you’ll present to the agents. Kids old enough to read will be given lines to deliver. Toddlers are encouraged to sing a song. But know what you are getting yourself into, parents—while some little ones have hummed out the A B C’s, we have it on source that one demi-diva belted out every line of Beyonce’s “Halo” at the ripe old age of 5. Once JC staffers see how you come off on film in round one of the audition, they’ll then let the bigshot Nickelodeon and Disney reps know what they think of you. If this troupe likes the feedback, they’ll book you for a call back, where you’ll perform directly in front of them.

About Sonny with a Chance:

The comedy series “Sonny With A Chance” tells the story of Allison “Sonny” Munroe, a talented Midwestern girl who, after posting her homemade comedy videos online, is discovered by a television producer and gets the chance to star in “So Random!,” the most popular sketch comedy series for kids and tweens.

After relocating to California with her mother, she meets the “So Random!” cast of characters she hopes to make her friends.

But Sonny’s bubbly disposition doesn’t win over the resident queen of the cast, Tawni Hart. Tawni will do anything to be the biggest star of “So Random!” and has dreaded the arrival of the show’s newest cast member, fearing her spotlight may shine on Sonny instead.

Rounding out the “So Random!” cast is the quirky and original Zora, the confident and cool Nico and his sidekick, the gregarious, fearless Grady.

In addition to her fellow cast members, Sonny meets heartthrob Chad Dylan Cooper, star of the popular tween drama “MacKenzie Falls,” which films on the adjacent stage. Sonny quickly learns that Chad’s ego is more than she can handle and that there’s a longstanding rivalry between the two casts.

Along with the behind-the-scenes banter, “Sonny With A Chance” showcases the comedy sketches of “So Random!,” which include Grady as “Dolphin Boy,” Tawni as “Queen Bee” and “Pageant Girl,” and Sonny and Tawni as “The Check It Out Girls.”

“Smart Alec” follows a geeky teenager who blossoms over the summer and now she fits in with the popular crowd. She tries to convince the in-crowd that being smart is cool and the geeky crowd that being pretty doesn’t make you stupid.

The sequel’s storyline follows Mitchie, Shane, Jason, Nate and their friends as they return to Camp Rock for another great summer of music and fun. Joining the cast are Matthew “Mdot” Finley as Luke Williams. Mdot is an accomplished R&B musician who has performed as the opening act for Ciara, Yung Joe, Dem Franchise Boyz, Lil’ Romeo and Mos Def, and was named Best R&B Male at the Urban Threshold Music Awards in 2006.

Chloe Bridges joins in the role of Dana Turner, daughter of the rival camp owner. Bridges is a noted classical pianist whose film and television credits include “Forget Me Not,” “The Longshots” and “The Comeback.”
