Selena Gomez: How She Got Started

Selena Gomez is by far one of the most popular Disney Channel stars these days. She has a hit Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place”, she’s starring in an upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie “Princess Protection Program” and she just finished up filming the WOWP movie.
How did Selena get to where she is today, starring in one of the most popular Disney Channel shows? It took some hard work, some patience and a few failed Disney pilots. She first started out starring on Barney & Friends. Yep, the show with the giant purple dinosaur. This is a common theme for several stars. Some got their start on the Mickey Mouse Club and others on Barney. The bottom line: they had to start somewhere!
At the age of 10, Selena attended a Nationwide Disney Talent Search with her mom. Disney liked her and she filmed three Disney pilots. They didn’t get picked up, but she didn’t give up.
Now Selena stars as Alex Russo on “Wizards of Waverly Place” and she’s a big hit. Selena Gomez was just a regular girl in Texas with a big dream. She had support from her family, which is huge, and now she is living out her dreams every week on the Disney Channel.

My idol/inspiration is Demi Lovato. I am always watching Demi and Selenas show’s so that i can learn how to be dramatic, sarcastic, mad, sad and even happy! Soon i hope to be the next disney channel star, it’s been my dream since i was 4 years old. My mom is trying to find some good acting schools, but no luck yet! NEVER give up on your dream.

Demi got discovered through Selena. She also went to a nationwide disney channel casting audition but she didn’t get picked. Then, she went on set with Selena and sang Ain’t No other man, and they loved her and gave her an audition for camp rock

Born on July 22, 1992 in New York City, NY, Selena Gomez is by far one of the most popular Disney Channel Stars. Her mother, Mandy Cornett, gave birth to her at the age of sixteen. Selena’s father, Ricardo Gomez and Selena’s mother divorced five years after she was born and her mom remarried nearly 10 years after. Although she is from New York, her mother is an Italian woman from Dallas, Texas, and her father is from New Mexico. She is American, Italian, and Mexican. At a young age Selena moved with her family to Grand Prairie, Texas, where she recently discovered her talent as “Gianna” in Barney and Friends. Unfortunately, they dropped her from the series about two years later from her acting. Later in 2003 she had a small role in the movie Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. Also a small part in 2005 when she played the character “Julie” in Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial By Fire with Mitchel Musso and in 2006 as “Emily Grace Garcia” in the movie Brain Zapped when she recorded a song for the movie. She guest-starred as “Gwen” in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and as Hannah Montana’s rival, the evil “Mikayla”. Selena’s amazing talent landed her roles in two Disney series shows. Though neither show was picked up until she got the role of the magical “Alex Russo” in Wizards of Waverly Place. which she auditioned for three times. In 2008 of March she made her very first animated movie Horton Hears A Who! and later starred in Another Cinderella Story. With Disney Channel Actor Drew Seeley. Her two Disney Channel Movies, (Princess Protection Program, with real life BFF Demi Lovato, and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie), will both air Summer 2009!
