About Sonny with a Chance:

The comedy series “Sonny With A Chance” tells the story of Allison “Sonny” Munroe, a talented Midwestern girl who, after posting her homemade comedy videos online, is discovered by a television producer and gets the chance to star in “So Random!,” the most popular sketch comedy series for kids and tweens.

After relocating to California with her mother, she meets the “So Random!” cast of characters she hopes to make her friends.

But Sonny’s bubbly disposition doesn’t win over the resident queen of the cast, Tawni Hart. Tawni will do anything to be the biggest star of “So Random!” and has dreaded the arrival of the show’s newest cast member, fearing her spotlight may shine on Sonny instead.

Rounding out the “So Random!” cast is the quirky and original Zora, the confident and cool Nico and his sidekick, the gregarious, fearless Grady.

In addition to her fellow cast members, Sonny meets heartthrob Chad Dylan Cooper, star of the popular tween drama “MacKenzie Falls,” which films on the adjacent stage. Sonny quickly learns that Chad’s ego is more than she can handle and that there’s a longstanding rivalry between the two casts.

Along with the behind-the-scenes banter, “Sonny With A Chance” showcases the comedy sketches of “So Random!,” which include Grady as “Dolphin Boy,” Tawni as “Queen Bee” and “Pageant Girl,” and Sonny and Tawni as “The Check It Out Girls.”

I love it, especially because it confuses people. The Wire was probably the best show I’ll ever be on, but actors do more than one kind of role, and I wanted my next project to be something totally different, so people would know I can play more than just slimy lawyers. On Sonny with a Chance, I got my wish. The show is really funny, I play a nervous TV producer, and I love the kids in the cast. They’re all really great people. Nothing will ever be The Wire, but this is a great departure. And I like having a new, and very different, group of fans. Instead of grown-ups coming up and saying “Wow, are you sleazy!,” I have smiley little kids running up and hugging me.

The actor also teaches a class called Audition Psych. 101. Here’s what he had to say about the class:

My class — it’s actually a one-night seminar – is unusual in that it deals with the mental challenges actors face when they audition. Auditioning is hard. It’s weird. And actors do all kinds of things to themselves that make it worse. “Audition Psych. 101” offers actors alternative ways of approaching the process, both mentally and philosophically. And I am really overjoyed when those who’ve attended tell me that it changed their careers. What an amazing thing to be able to do for my colleagues.
