Top 5 Tips to Become
A Disney Channel Actress
Do you want to become a Disney Channel actress? Do you go crazy at the thought of getting auditions for Disney Channel shows? Great…but it doesn’t happen every day, and it certainly doesn’t happen to everyone. It’s not simple, it’s not immediate, and it’s not for everyone.
That may not be pretty, it may not be exactly what you wanted to hear, but it is the truth. Are actors discovered “out of nowhere” sometimes? Yes, it happens…but it doesn’t happen all that often.
So, what will give you the best chance to become a Disney Channel actress? Let’s run through a few tips that will definitely help to get you on the right track.
1) Get some experience with local acting opportunities
First and foremost, you have to get some acting experience. Sure, that may seem a little bit obvious but the fact is that the more experience that you have, the more opportunities you will get. You need to start to get that experience with local school and community productions before you consider going after auditions for Disney Channel productions.
After a while, you can start to audition for and work your way up to local commercials and print ads to add a little bit more weight to your resume. It really is the best way to get your start and make people start sitting up and talking about your potential to become a Disney Channel actress.
2) Talk to local people with industry experience
Start having some conversations with the people who are in charge of the local productions you are becoming involved in. Many of them probably have some experience in the industry and may be able to shed some light on the best way for you to move forward with your acting and get closer to auditions for Disney Channel.
Also, some of them may have some connections in the industry that they could direct you to in order to get the “inside track” on some opportunities that would fit with your talents.
Take my daughter, for instance. The director of the first drama/acting club that she was involved in had actually spent several years performing in the Broadway hit “Cats” a few years back. She had some great experience that she could pass along to the kids…and probably a few names to throw out if we had asked.
Just remember: If you don’t ask, the answer is no. So ask the questions that could get you to the right person.
3) Find a good local acting coach
If you really think that any famous actor has gotten where they are without coaching and lots of practice, think again. Maybe you have heard of a show called “Seinfeld” from a few years back. Did you know that the remarkable actors on that show regularly worked with acting coaches on the set? These were people making $1 million per episode…and they constantly worked to get better and better.
You should also understand that the odds of just being “discovered” for a Disney Channel show without any real training, coaching or experience are very slim. Sure it happens from time to time, but so does winning the lottery. Don’t stake your future on those kinds of odds. You may have natural talent and a burning desire, but that is just the start. Be ready to learn, to work hard and to always strive to get better so that you really can become a Disney Channel actress. That has to start today.
